Auction Platform

Auction software that runs your way.
Owned by you.

Online auction software is the system that manages the bidding, listings, bidder accounts, timing, and payments needed to run an online auction. PHP Pro Bid is online auction software that runs all three formats (timed auctions, live auction events, and a full marketplace) on one platform you own outright. Install on your server or let us host it. Zero transaction fees, backed by nearly two decades of proven reliability.

What kinds of auctions can you run?

What is a timed auction?

A timed auction is an online auction where each item has a fixed closing time, and bidders can place bids any time until it ends. PHP Pro Bid runs timed auctions with proxy bidding and anti-sniping. See timed auctions →

What is a live auction event?

A live auction event is a scheduled sale with a named catalog of lots that close in sequence, minutes apart. PHP Pro Bid runs auction events with staggered closing and one invoice per buyer. See auction events →

What is an auction marketplace?

An auction marketplace lets multiple sellers list items, at auction or fixed price, on one branded site with a shared checkout. PHP Pro Bid includes marketplace and shopping-cart selling alongside auctions. See the marketplace →

Why run your own platform?

Your buyers. Your fees. No percentage taken.

On a marketplace you're renting someone else's audience, and paying for it on every sale. With your own auction platform, the buyers are yours to keep. Run timed auctions, estate sales, charity fundraisers, or a full marketplace, all from one installation, one admin panel, one buyer list.

The platform handles proxy bidding, staggered lot closings, invoicing, and payment collection automatically. You set the listing fees and the commission structure. No transaction fees to us on any plan — we charge for the software, not a cut of what you sell.

Three ways to sell

Which type of auction is right for your business?

Which format fits depends on how you sell: timed auctions for online-only catalogs, live events for scheduled multi-lot sales, and a marketplace for fixed-price listings. All three run on the same installation, the same admin panel, the same buyer accounts, so start with one and add others as you grow.

01
Most popular

Online Timed Auctions

Set a start time, set an end time. Bidders place proxy bids from anywhere in the world and compete until the clock hits zero — automatically, with no auctioneer required. The auction runs 24/7 whether you're at your desk or not.

  • Proxy bidding with automatic increments
  • Bid sniping protection — extends closing time
  • Automatic outbid alerts and invoicing
  • Custom start/end times per lot
02
Reinvented

Auction Events

Group hundreds of lots into a single event — estate sales, liquidations, charity galas, vehicle auctions. Lots close in staggered sequence, minutes apart. One buyer invoice covers every lot they win. Built for the way real auctions work.

  • Staggered lot closings — set the interval
  • Bulk lot upload or add individually
  • Auto-invoice per buyer for all lots won
  • Works for commercial and charity events
03
Marketplace

Marketplace & Webstore

Run fixed-price sales and a multi-seller marketplace alongside your auctions — all on the same platform. Buyers use one account for everything. Third-party sellers list on your site. You collect fees. No separate system required.

  • Fixed-price shopping cart and checkout
  • Third-party seller stores with fee collection
  • Buy Now alongside live bidding
  • One buyer account — auctions and store
One installation

All three formats.
Same platform, same buyers, same admin.

Most auction software forces you to choose a single format or run separate systems side by side. PHP Pro Bid ships all three in one installation — one codebase, one database, one server. That's a single buyer list shared across timed auctions, events, and your store.

For you, that means one admin panel to manage listings, invoices, fees, and users — regardless of format. For your buyers, it means one registration, one login, one account balance. No re-entering payment details when they move from an auction to your store.

Technically, it also means one deployment to maintain. One set of backups. One SSL certificate. One hosting bill. Whether you're running 50 lots or 50,000, the platform scales without additional infrastructure for each format.

Three plans. One platform. Zero transaction fees.

License once and own the software outright — source code included*, runs on your server. Or subscribe to Cloud and we handle the hosting while you run the platform. Or go fully managed on a private VPS. All three include every auction format, the full feature set, and zero transaction fees to us on every sale.

Not sure which? Buy the License to own it outright and run it on your own server. Choose Cloud to launch in minutes with nothing to manage. Pick Managed VPS for private server resources, source access, and priority support on infrastructure we run for you. Use the auction software cost calculator to compare all three against another platform's subscription and transaction fees over one, three, or five years.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about auction software

What is online auction software?
Online auction software is a platform for running your own branded bidding site — your domain, your buyers, your fees. You set the rules: timed auctions that run overnight, live events with staggered lot closings, or a fixed-price store running alongside your auctions. Unlike a general marketplace, you own the platform and keep all your buyer data.
What auction formats does PHP Pro Bid support?
Three formats on a single installation: Online Timed Auctions (24/7 proxy bidding with automatic countdowns), Auction Events (grouped lots with staggered closings for estate sales, galas, and liquidations), and Marketplace & Webstore (fixed-price sales and multi-seller listings alongside your auctions). All three share the same admin panel and buyer accounts.
How much does PHP Pro Bid cost?
Three plans: License at £399 one-time (full source code, self-hosted, owned permanently), Cloud from £63/month billed annually (hosted on our infrastructure, no technical setup), and Managed VPS from £159/month (private managed VPS, your own domain and source code included). All plans include every auction format and zero transaction fees.
Does PHP Pro Bid charge transaction fees?
No. PHP Pro Bid charges for the software — not a percentage of what you sell. On every plan (License, Cloud, and VPS), we take zero transaction fees. Every listing fee and final value fee you collect goes entirely to you.
What is the difference between self-hosted and cloud auction software?
Self-hosted (the License) means you install the software on your own server — you own the code outright with no ongoing payments. Cloud means we host the platform for you; you're live in minutes with no technical setup. The Managed VPS combines both: we host and manage a private VPS for you, but you get your own domain and the full source code. One difference worth noting: the License covers version 10 and all v10.x minor updates, but major versions (v11, v12…) are separate paid upgrades — existing v10, v9 and v8 licensees get a discount when they choose to upgrade. Cloud and Managed VPS include every future version as part of the subscription. Learn more on the self-hosted auction software page.
Can I run multiple auction formats on the same platform?
Yes. All three formats (timed auctions, auction events, and marketplace) are included in every PHP Pro Bid installation. Your buyers register once and can bid in timed auctions, participate in events, and buy fixed-price items from the same account. Nothing to reinstall or migrate as your business grows.
What is the best auction software?
The best auction software depends on your business model. Key criteria to evaluate: Does it support the auction formats you need (timed, live, or both)? Does it charge transaction fees on top of the license? Can you self-host or are you locked into a vendor's cloud? Do you own your buyer data? PHP Pro Bid scores well on all four: three formats in one installation, zero transaction fees on every plan, self-hosted and cloud options, and full ownership of your buyer database. It holds a 5.0 rating on Capterra and has been in active development since 2006.
Can I white-label the auction platform with my own branding?
Yes. Every plan can use your own domain, logo, colors, and theme. White-label auction software is available through Unbranding: it is a paid add-on for License and Cloud, and included with Managed VPS. License and Managed VPS also include source-code access; a small number of licensing and security files are encoded with ionCube. Custom design services are separate.
